Containing panko breadcrumbs, pre-cooked rice and katsu curry sauce, you need to add chicken, an egg and flour to make a Chicken Katsu Curry. Whilst doing the weekly shop I spotted Tesco’s Katsu Curry meal kit, for £2.49 at the time of writing. It was just the curry sauce I had to crack. The chicken, rice and salad parts should be easy enough. There are lots of recipes floating around the internet and in cook books. Neither of Wagamama’s own cook books list a recipe for Katsu Curry. So I’m seeing if I can recreate Chicken Katsu Curry at home. In the photo below I asked for extra sauce to go with my katsu curry □īut as yummy as Wagamama’s dish is, at around £10 (and over 1000 calories!) a pop it’s limited to the occasional treat. Milder in taste, katsu kare is deep fried pork or chicken (as Wagamama use) served with a curry sauce over sticky rice. Japanese kare is very different from the curries you might associate with south Asian and Indian curries. Like many others I’ve fallen for the delicious combination of crispy panko-crumbed chicken over sticky rice with that sauce I think I will never tire of. Wagamama’s Chicken Katsu Curry is one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, and with good reason.
